Luka Okrostsvaridze A scholar of the Charitable Foundation named after Helena Roerich
Luka Okrostsvaridze was born on March 19, 1991 in Tbilisi, Georgia. In his early childhood people called him Little Mozart. Just like Mozart, he wrote his first piece of music when he was four. In fact, he mastered musical notes before he learned alphabet. A boy of exceptional intellectual faculties, at six he performed Beethoven by memory. He did not need any notes – having heard or played a melody of Mozart, Beethoven, or Hendel he memorized it right away. At five Luka Okrostsvaridze was accepted to the musical school for gifted children in Tbilisi, and at six he played his first solo concert at the House of Composers at which he performed compositions of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Tartini. Already then he amazed his listeners with a vivid grown-up interpretation of Rahmaninov’s preludes – powerful music extracted by the child’s hands busting through the centuries. At seven the gifted musician performed together with the chamber orchestra Bach’s F minor concerto at the Smaller Hall of the Tbilisi Conservatoire, and under the charitable project of the «Novye Imena» (New Names) Charity Fund he was invited to the master class of A. Mitshuk, laureate of many international competitions. Later on, the talented pianist also took part in workshops of such prominent pedagogues and musicians as I. Berkovitch and A. Pisariev. Luka Okrostsvaridze is a scholar of the Charitable Foundation named after Helena Roerich, the Spivakov International Charity Fund, and a many times winner of the scholarship of the President of Georgia. At present, Luka is studying at the Academic Music School of the P.I. Tchaikovsky State Conservatoire in Moscow in the class of O.E. Metchetina.
The outstanding young pianist and composer Luka Okrostsvaridze has taken part and become laureate of many international festivals and competitions:
